Database Design 17 – Parent Tables and Child Tables

About this tutorial:

Video duration: 6:59
Donate!: Child tables reference a primary key using a foreign key. This helps us design our relationships properly. Later in this series we will learn how the child table inherits values from the parent table and (in some instances) cannot exist without the parent (FK constraints).

I have not seen one video that shows how to actually assign foreign keys to primary keys in the parent table. Is there any way this can be designed while actually populating the database? If there is a parent table called lines which has many products in a child table called products, if there are four lines 1,2,3,4, and line 1 has 3 products, product1, product2, product3, so the composite key for product1 would be: 11, now is there any software that can be used that automatically assigns these composite keys, is there any way that products and lines could be linked so the database automatically creates the keys? Or do i need to explicitly remember the id's of the parent table and manually link each one to rows in the child table?
SOrry if this sounded like a ramble and did not make sense.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

A good real world example to explain PK and FK are an actual lock and key.

A lock has a single set of pins, but many keys can relate back to the pin configuration and open the lock.

Edit: I obviously mean a basic pin/tumbler lock here.

It's not every day you stumble across a "kick ass" video on Youtube where someone explains something complicated in laymen terms. THANK YOU – You have a gift!!!!
