How to insert tabs and indents in Microsoft Word for Mac

About this tutorial:

Video duration: 6:59
In this screen cast, I will explain how to quickly and easily make custom tabs and indents using the horizontal ruler in Microsoft Word on a Mac. This is great to know how to do when formatting research papers, works cited pages, and other custom documents!

My problem is I want to tab over to the 2nd tab without always putting something on the 1st tab first. So for example, I tab to the 2nd tab and type something in. Then when I click return I get a squiggly green line and the format gets messed up.
I tried using columns, but then you can't tab over! How do I fix that?

This girl is awesome! I have been trying to figure this out all day! Why doesn't Apple offer her a job? Why didn't Apple include this on the Mac/Word help? Why does a whole company exist with all these computer geeks and they can't even explain this decently on their Word program? I'm writing to Apple and telling them about this girl. Thank you, Heidi!

@aerodude08 I have the same computer as you. You have to buy/download Microsoft Office for Mac from the site. It doesn't come with your computer.
