What is a frequency polygon? In essence it’s very similar to a histogram. Both are trying to help you understand the shape of the distribution of values. The difference is that in a histogram, the horizontal axis is categorized by the bin or buckets that the count of the values reside in. In a frequency polygon, the horizontal categorization is based on the mid-point of the buckets. An advantage of a frequency polygon is that you can compare multiple sets of data; since it’s a line chart it’s easier to visually see the difference.
