New analysis has revealed a sliding kindergarten attendance rate is severely affecting young Australians – with some students without foundational literacy and numeracy skills unable to recognise basic numbers and letters.
Census data indicated the proportion of children attending kindergarten had declined since 2016.
An international study has also found Australian year 4 students were outperformed by 22 other countries last year.
