    @Antrikshy – yes, that's right! There are some limitations of SmartArt I don't like (can't change shape to circle, hexagon; text pop-up keeps appearing while you're editing) but it comes down to personal preference. Consider this one of the design tools in your toolbelt.

    Excellent tip! I had done something like this once by constructing smaller triangles and fitting them inside the frame — talk about a major pain in the backside! Furthermore, forget about resizing & al.
    Your suggestion is elegant, powerful and easier to implement.
